Women's Lacrosse Edged by Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (March 14, 2019) - The FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team was edged by Rhodes College 12-11 Thursday afternoon.

The Devils drop to 1-2 on the season.

Rhodes opened the scoring just 1:12 into the game, but sophomore Olivia Chaoush answered back two minutes later. The Devils were able to force a turnover, and off a successful clear, Chaoush netted her fifth of the year. The Chaoush tally kicked off four straight goals for the Devils, including two from senior Caroline Pape.

The host Lynx notched the next two to get within one before senior Kathleen Petrucelli and Pape scored 1:08 apart to go back up three. After Rhodes' Aidan Pike scored consecutive goals, Pape gave the Devils a two-goal lead entering halftime as she notched a marker with 2:18 remaining in the stanza.

FDU held a 12-8 edge at the half in shots while going 11-of-15 on clearing attempts.

The two sides traded goals opening the second stanza before senior Caitlyn Damon took a pass from junior Rafaella Morais and beat the goalie for her third marker of the season. Pike scored for the Lynx before Chaoush and Pape potted goals 1:55 apart to grab an 11-7 lead, forcing Rhodes to take a timeout.

The timeout paid off, as the hosts would score the next five goals to take a 12-11 lead with 8:26 remaining in the game. Senior Megan Nemeth made three stops over the next five minutes to give the Devils a chance at finding the tying goal but were not unable to convert. FDU had one final chance at the buzzer, but Pape's shot was saved by the Lynx goalie.
