Men's Lacrosse Extends Win Streak to Three In 10-5 Triumph Over Bryn Athyn

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. (March 11, 2019) – The FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team scored three times in each of the first three quarters to knock off 10-5 Bryn Athyn College Monday.

The Devils extended their winning streak to three games, moving to 3-1 on the year. Bryn Athyn drops to 1-2.

FDU scored a goal on their first possession after freshman MacGyver Hay scooped up the opening faceoff. After an initial shot went wide, junior Pat Stewart converted a shot just 1:25 into the game. Junior Adam Reifer made a pair of stops midway through the opening period, and the Devils took advantage of a turnover to extend the lead. Junior Mike Gartner caused a turnover and fed senior Michael Warg who beat the Lions goalkeeper.

The visiting Devils padded their total with 5:09 left in the period, this time with junior John Guido getting into the action for a goal. FDU continued to pour it on, adding three tallies in the first 6:49 of the second stanza. Stewart notched his second point of the day, dishing out an assist to classmate John Belanger. After an illegal body check penalty, Warg took a pass from Belanger for the man-up goal.

Just 49 seconds later the roles were reversed, as Belanger scored off a Warg pass. The Lions scored with 5:03 left in the quarter to end the shutout, as the Devils went into halftime leading 6-1. FDU held a 20-13 edge in shots at the break and went 11-14 on clearing attempts.

Neither side could generate a goal over the first 11 minutes of the third quarter before the hosts trimmed the deficit to four with 4:07 to go. The Devils countered back with the next three markers over the final 3:34 starting with an unassisted tally from senior Kyle Conrad. 1:17 after that, rookie Zane Johnston got in the act with another unassisted goal before sophomore Tyler Garcia closed out the third quarter scoring off a Belanger pass. His goal came with just 12 seconds remaining in the period.

Bryn Athyn wasted no time in the fourth quarter, taking the faceoff and depositing a goal 55 ticks into the frame. Despite dropping the next faceoff, the Devils forced a turnover. Off the successful clear, Johnston netted his second of the night to close out the scoring for the team. Bryn Athyn would get two goals late, including the final one with two seconds left, but were unable to come back.
