Madison, NJ (November 9, 2019) - The FDU Florham field hockey team defeated DeSales University by a score of 5-0 on Saturday to claim their second consecutive Middle Atlantic Freedom championship. The Devils win back-to-back titles for the first time in program history. This also marks the third MAC Freedom Conference championship for the Devils field hockey program.
With three goals on the game, and an assist in Wednesday nights victory over Misericordia, sophomore
Haleigh Flukey was rewarded with the 2019 MAC Freedom Tournament Most Valuable Player trophy.
With the win the Devils move to 17-4 on the season with the Bulldogs falling to 13-8 overall.
The Devils championship experience showed early, as Flukey notched her first goal of the contest, in the sixth minute. With the score, the Devils jumped out to the 1-0 advantage over DeSales. The bulldog offense was eager to tie the score, as they made their way past the Devils in the ninth minute for two shots. Both shot attempts were denied, as junior goalie
Megan March stepped up for the Devils to record the saves. The FDU offensive unit kept giving the Bulldogs all they could handle, and in the 11th minute, the Devils executed again. The score came by way of a an upperclassman connection. Senior

Marissa Colvin with the pass, who then chipped the ball in for the goal. Up 2-0, the Devils did not waste much time tacking on to their lead. In the 14th minute, it was Flukey again. This time, the sophomore caught the ball off of a rebound, and then fired it in for the goal. The FDU score was their final of the quarter, as time expired.
The Devils started the second quarter right where they left off. In the 19th minute, sophomore
Emilee Vizzuso stepped to the line for a penalty stroke. Vizzuso's attempt was successful, as her shot launched past the Bulldogs goalie, for the score. Both defenses rendered the opposing team scoreless, as the game went into the half time break, with the Devils in front, 4-0.
The Devils did not take their foot off the gas, as they continued to gain the offensive advantage as the second half began. In the 36th minute, the shot attempt by Sohns was blocked by the Bulldogs. Sohns continued to penetrate past the DeSales defense, as she fired off another shot in the 38th minute, but it was saved by DeSales. The Devils prevented any bulldog shot attempts, as the game entered the fourth frame.
In the final quarter, March stopped the Bulldogs attempt to get on the board in the 47th minute. With the end of the contest nearing, the Devils turned to Flukey once again. This time, the sophomore took a pass from Colvin, and onetimed it, for the score. Up 5-0, the clock continued to tick down, as the Devils secured the 2019 MAC Freedom Championship.
