Madison, NJ (November 9, 2019) - The Devils Football program (3-7, 2-5) celebrated their 2019 seniors with a record-breaking day by defeating Alvernia University (2-8, 1-7) by a score of 84-56.
The 84 total points scored is the most points scored in a game in FDU football history.
Alvernia got the scoring started with a 52-yard touchdown run by Malcolm Carey on the first drive of the game. The Devils knotted the score at seven on the next drive, after an eight yard touchdown run by Junior
Alnazir Blackman.
FDU would go on to score the next 21 points to take a 28-7 lead. Blackman led the charge with a 21-yard touchdown run, followed by a 14-yard scramble by Senior QB
Tommy Galante and a 70-yard touchdown pass to Sophomore
Connor Perez.
The Golden Wolves answered with a quick five play, 65-yard drive capped off by a Daniel Scott-22 yard touchdown run.
On the next possession, the Devils responded in quick fashion, putting together a :33 second, three play drive, resulting in a
Robert Blakely 10 yard touchdown run.
FDU wasn't done scoring in the first half. After a big defensive stop of Alvernia, Galante would connect with Senior
Damarquis Price on a 17-yard touchdown pass.
The Devils went into halftime with a 49-14 lead.
The second half saw the Golden Wolves score first, cutting the lead to 49-21. However, FDU had the response, with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Galante to Junior
Rory Sullivan, increasing the lead to 56-21.
After trading touchdowns on each of the next two possessions and a missed extra point increased the score to 69-35, Alvernia put the second half pressure on. The Golden Wolves scored 21 unanswered points to cut the Devil lead to 13.
FDU responded in high-power fashion, scoring the game's final two touchdowns. First on a 28-yard pass from Galante to Perez, then, to seal the game, QB
Tommy Galante swung a pass right to Freshman
Mark Kepler. Kepler would return the favor, sending the ball back across the field for Galante who scampered for a 56-yard touchdown.
That would be all the scoring in this offensive showdown as the Devils sealed a 84-56 victory. With the victory, FDU finishes the 2019 season with an overall record of 3-7.
Doing it All
Galante led the way for the Devils throwing for 345 total yards and six touchdowns. He would also add 60 yards on the ground, plus a running and receiving touchdown on the day.
Running Machine
Blackman led FDU with 205 yards on the ground and 2 touchdowns. Senior
Robert Blakely would also find the back of the end zone, scoring on a 10-yard run in the second quarter. On the day, the Devils ran for a total of 296 yards and five touchdowns.
Receiving Core
Connor Perez led all Devils with 145 receiving yards and four touchdowns. All in all, four different Devils would find the end zone, including
Damarquis Price,
Rory Sullivan and
