Field Hockey to Host Misericordia in MAC Freedom Semifinals on Wednesday

MADISON, N.J.  - The Devils field hockey team concluded the 2019 season with a 15-4 overall record. Under first year Head Coach, Maura Johnston, the Devils finished the season 6-1 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom games. That mark, was good enough to award the Devils the top-seed in this weeks MAC Freedom Tournament.  FDU will play host to fourth-seeded Misericordia. The Cougars enter the postseason after finishing with a record of 9-10, and 3-4 in the MAC Freedom.

Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, at Robert T. Shields Field in Madison, N.J.

LAST MEETING
On October 19, the Devils defeated the Cougars on the road, by a score of 3-2. Senior Jessica Pietracatella netted two goals in the contest.

AROUND THE MAC
In the other semifinals game, No .2 DeSales plays hosts to No. 3 Stevens on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The winners of both semifinal matches, will meet on Saturday at the site the highest remaining seed. 

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
The 2019 regular season was one in which the Devils recorded their best start in program history, at 12-2. On September 25, FDU defeated the #11 ranked team in the country, Montclair State, by a score of 2-1. The Devils also held a 3-1 record in overtime games. 

IN A LEAGUE OF HER OWN
Sophomore Haleigh Flukey led all MAC Freedom players in goals during the 2019 season, with 24. Flukey is currently tied for the programs single-season goal record, with Kristin Mesick, who scored 24 goals in the 1986 season. The sophomore also is three points shy of the single-season points record.

BEST OF THE MAC
Senior Maggie Sohns bested all MAC Freedom players in assists, with 15. Flukey also ranked first in the conference in game-winning goals, with six.

COACHES CORNER
"It feels great to have the success we've had so far this season; it is a direct result of the hard work that the team has put in. We are happy with the position we put ourselves in to be able to play at home on Wednesday." Added Coach Johnston.
