(Madison, NJ, November 23, 2019) - (Box Score to follow) The FDU women's basketball team fell to Stockton on Saturday afternoon, by a score of 67-58. The Devils drop to 1-3 on the season, as Stockton improves their record to 3-1.
The Devils started off the game hot, as in the first quarter of the game, freshman
Jayda Bing, senior
Cayla Staggers, and freshman
Nevaeh Sutton all connected on two-point field goal attempts. Later in the quarter, sophomore
Helen Ishmael took advantage of two trips to the charity stripe, as she made good on four free throw attempts. The Devils held on to the 14-11 lead, until Stockton was successful on a jump shot attempt, to cut the FDU lead to 14-13. With 14 seconds remaining in the quarter, senior
Jennah Roman inked a free throw attempt, giving the Devils the 15-13 lead heading into the second frame.
After relinquishing the lead, sophomore
Arian Coleman and Ishmael hit back-to-back shots, to put FDU back in front, 19-15. Staggers would later go on, to extend the Devils lead, as she hit a shot. With 1:28 remaining in the second quarter, the Ospreys made a three-pointer, to jump back in front, 25-23. Going to the line with 1:03 left, Bing nailed a free throw attempt, to bring the game into the halftime break, with Stockton leading.
Stockton continued with the momentum in the third quarter, until Roman hit a three pointer, to put the Devils back in the drivers' seat. However, the Ospreys would go on to hit a series of attempts, to help them take the lead. The Devils continued to chip at the deficit, as Coleman hit a layup. Trailing now by the biggest margin of the game, at eight, the Devils stringed together seven straight points to cut the lead to 48-47. The Devils surge was highlighted by four points from Bing.
In the fourth quarter, the Ospreys were stellar offensively, as they held on to the lead, for the win.
LEADERS
Bing led all Devils with 15 points.
Staggers added 11 points for the Devils
Roman netted 12 points in the contest.
