LaRocca's Late Three Seals Second Straight Victory for Men's Basketball, 66-64

Newark, NJ (November 20)- The FDU Men's Basketball team defeated Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday, 66-64 to win their second consecutive game. The loss is the Scarlett Raiders first of the season, dropping them to 2-1, while the Devils improve to 2-2 on the year.

FIRST HALF
There were three ties and eight lead changes in the first half. At the 11:21 mark in the first half, Rutgers-Newark held a 12-point lead. That was the largest lead held by either team in this game.

The Scarlett Raiders had a halftime lead of 35-31.

SECOND HALF
Eight more lead changes occurred during the second half of play, with the Devils holding the largest lead at seven points, with 5:07 remaining.

COMING UP CLUTCH
With 0:02 remaining in the game, Senior Kenneth LaRocca received a pass from Senior Andy Fleurantin and drained the go ahead, game winning three, sealing the game for the Devils. 

LEAD DEVILS
Fleurantin led the way for the Devils with 21 points on 8-12 shooting, including 5-8 from behind the arc. Junior Oliver Ortman had another great game, finishing with 17 points and four three-pointers. Junior Shawn Smith recorded six assists for the second time this season. He also added nine points.

KEY CONTRIBUTORS
LaRocca finished the game perfect from three-point land, going 2-2. Overall, he scored 10 points on 4-6 from the field. Freshman Joseph Nigro lead the Devils with 6 rebounds. Fellow freshman Andrew Shulz came off the bench in the second half to drain a three, giving the Devils a two-point lead, with 7:59 remaining.

"What a great road win for our guys against a really talented, well coached Rutgers-Newark team," said Head Coach Jeff Slanovec after the victory. "And to end it with two big time shots from our two seniors, I couldn't be prouder"

UP NEXT
FDU looks to extend their winning streak to three games when they travel to play in the NYU Tournament this coming Saturday and Sunday, November 23-24. The Devils will play Western New England University Saturday at 7 p.m. with their Sunday game to be determined.
