Springfield, Mass (November 16, 2019)- The FDU women's soccer program defeated Rutgers-Newark University in Round 1 of the ECAC tournament at Springfield College on Saturday, 1-0.
First Half
The Devils controlled played in the first half, finishing with 7 total shots and 4 shots on goal, holding most of the play in the Scarlett Raiders half. Junior Goaltender
Ashley Paulino finished the half with three saves while Junior
Erica Martins finished with 2 shots and 1 on goal. The game remained 0-0 at the halftime break.
Second Half
Play was back and forth in the first 20 minutes of the second frame. In the 59
th minute, Junior
Madeline Finnegan put the ball in the back of the net, giving the Devils a 1-0 lead. FDU would control play for the remainder of the game to secure the First Round ECAC victory.

FDU finished the game with 14 total shots and 6 shots on goal. Leading the way for the devils was Martins with 3 total shots and 2 on goal. Finnegan, the games lone goal scorer, along with Junior
Tatiana Nieto and Sophomore
Brianna Cucinelli, each finished with 2 total shots and 1 on goal.
Brick Wall
Paulino finishes with her 7
th shutout win of the season, stopping all four of the Scarlett Raider attempts. Â

"Took a bit to settle in today but once we did we were great in all areas on the field. We created great passes in the second half and were able to capitalize on one. Looking forward to tomorrow against a good Springfield team and we are very optimistic after todays performance". - Head Coach
