Men's Basketball Falls to Mount Aloysius College, 68-60

Anville, PA (November 15, 2019)- The FDU Men's Basketball team lost to Mount Aloysius College in game one of the Rinso Marquette Tournament at Lebanon Valley College, 68-60. The Devils drop to 0-2 on the season while the Mounties improve to 2-1.

First Half
The Devils were paced by Juniors Shawn Smith and Oliver Ortman. Smith played 14 minutes scoring seven points on 3 of 4 shooting, while Ortman added five points, including a three-pointer. Freshman Derrick Whitaker added 5 points on 2-3 from the field. There were four lead changes in the first five minutes of the game and six total in the first half. Mount Alysious went into halftime up 34-29.

Second Half
The Mounties would go hot from behind the arc, hitting consecutive threes, to build a 10-point lead. FDU would bring the game within three points at 53-50 with 6:35 remaining. After back and forth play, the Devils were able to get within two, down 62-60 with under 90 seconds to play. Missed opportunities down the stretch and late free throws made by the Mounties, ended the game 68-60.

Lead Devils
Ortman led the way for FDU scoring 15 points and knocking down three 3-pointers in 35 minutes on the floor. Junior Shawn Smith finished with 11 points and 5 assists on an efficient 4 of 7 from the field.
 
Going the Distance
Senior Andy Fleurantin played all 40 minutes of the ballgame finishing with 7 points and 6 rebounds.
 
Bench Scoring
Whitaker scored 9 points off the bench for the Devils, playing 21 minutes and shooting 50% from the field.
 
From the Coach
"We came out flat today and had no energy until our backs were against the wall," said Head Coach Jeff Slanovec. "We can't let our energy level be determined by whether we're making shots or not. It's going to take a good effort tomorrow and I'm confident our guys will bring it."
