Second Half Rally Leads Women's Soccer Past Eastern 3-2

ST. DAVIDS, PA. (October 26, 2019) – The FDU women's soccer team scored twice over the final 10:58 to knock off Eastern University in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom action Saturday.

FDU improves to 12-5-1, 2-4-0 in the MAC Freedom while Eastern drops to 7-8-1, 2-3-1 in the conference.

The Devils need just 5:44 to open the scoring in the game. Junior Tatiana Nieto sent a pass out to rookie Jenna Conanan. Conanan took a touch and rifled a shot off the goalkeeper's fingertips and in for her fourth tally of the year. In the 16th minute, the Eagles leveled the contest at one all. Nieto and fellow junior Nathalia Gallo each recorded shots on goal but were unable to find the back of the net. Freshman Brianna Branagan made a pair of stops late in the period to send the two sides deadlocked at one entering the half.

Both teams tallied eight shots and three shots on goal over the first 45 minutes, while the host Eagles held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Conanan nearly gave FDU a lead in the 47th minute, as her shot in the bottom center of the net was stopped. It was the Eagles who padded their lead in the 50th minute, as Nicole Weenink added her second tally of the game. The Devils hunted for the equalizer, peppering the Eastern goalkeeper with shots.

The Devils found the back of the net in the 80th minute, as senior Nicolette Roberts swung a cross into the box. Junior Erica Martins was there and headed in the Roberts pass to tie the contest at two. 3:36 later, Roberts was once again involved in the deciding goal. The senior delivered a near-post cross, and this Nieto was able to finish the goal with a first-time finish. Playing with the lead, the Devils did not allow a shot on goal over the rest of the game, as the Eagles lone shot sailed over the goal.

  • Roberts registered her second multi-assist game of the season. The first one came in the season-opening victory over New Jersey City University.
