Women's Soccer Edged by Drew in Overtime 3-2

MADISON, N.J. (October 29, 2019) – The FDU women's soccer team was topped in overtime 3-2 by Madison Ave. rival Drew University Tuesday evening.

The Devils are now 12-6-1 on the year as Drew evens their record to 8-8.

Junior Stephanie Corea attempted the first two shot attempts, but both went just side. The Devils got on the board in the 16th minute, after senior Nicolette Roberts crossed a ball into the box. The ball found the head of junior Madeline Finnegan, who headed into the goal for her eighth tally of the season. Junior Ashley Paulino was able to keep the Rangers off the board in the period, notching four stops, with the final one coming with just 12 seconds left in the opening period.

The host Rangers held a slim 7-6 advantage in the shot category while also securing a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.

FDU made their second chance of the second stanza count, as junior Erica Martins doubled the lead in the 53rd minute. Classmate Tatiana Nieto fed Martins, who beat the Rangers keeper inside the left post for her eighth goal of the year. The visitors nearly added to their lead in the 60th minute, as junior Amanda Croce had a header that was saved.

Drew pulled level with a pair of goals within 73 seconds, and both sides were now on the hunt for the go-ahead tally. Nieto had opportunities in the 82nd and 84th minutes that were unable to go in, while Finnegan's attempt with four seconds remaining was wide to the left. The two sides entered overtime with the score knotted at two. Paulino opened the extra session with a save 51 seconds into the period, but the Rangers tallied the golden goal 2:15 into the stanza to claim the 3-2 victory.
