Football Downed by Lycoming in Conference Play

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (October 26, 2019) - The FDU football team lost on the road to Lycoming College on Saturday by a score of 42-21.

The Devils fall 2-6 overall and 1-5 in Middle Atlantic Conference action. The Warriors jump to 2-6 and 1-4 in the MAC.

The Warriors won the coin toss and elected to defer the ball to the Devils. The Devils did not convert on their first try of the game. The Warriors executed on their first possession of the afternoon, taking the early 7-0 lead. Lycoming would later add to their lead, going up 14-0. In their last possession of the first quarter, junior quarterback Anthony Caserta found freshman Mark Kepler for a pair of receptions. Kepler opened the drive with a nine-yard catch, and a few plays later turned the pass from Caserta into a 21-yard gain. However, the Warriors cut the Devils drive short. In the second quarter, the Warriors added seven more points to their lead, going up 21-0.

Lycoming added to their lead in the third quarter, 28-0. Aiming to get on the board, the Devils did just so. Starting the drive at their 22-yard line, junior Rory Sullivan ran for an 18-yard gain. Two plays later, senior quarterback Tommy Galante took the ball himself for a 60-yard touchdown rush. Senior Nick Maciejewski came on for the extra point attempt and was successful.

Later in the quarter, Galante continued to move the chains for the Devils. The senior hit rookie JeVaughn Thomas II for back-to-back passes for a 10 and nine-yard gain. FDU could not get on the board, as the Warriors got the ball back. Before the close of the quarter, Lycoming scored another seven points, going up 35-7.

On their first drive of the fourth quarter, the Devils took seven-play for 75 yards and the touchdown. Galante opened the drive with a 10-yard completion to Thomas II. A few plays later, Galante found sophomore Connor Perez for a 20-yard connection. Now into Lycoming territory, junior Alnazir Blackman ran for an 11, 13, and a six-yard gain. Galante then completed a six-yard gain to senior Robert Blakely. On the ensuing play, it was Blakely again. The Senior burst through the Warriors defense for a nine-yard touchdown rush. Maciejewski was successful with his extra-point attempt, as the Devils cut into their deficit, 42-14.

With the ball in their hands, the Warriors marched down the field for 44 yards. On a rush in Devil's territory, sophomore Terance Saysay forced the ball out of the Warriors running backs hands as Isaac Rosado jumped on the ball for the fumble recovery.

Galante started off the Devils drive with a 42-yard completion to Perez. Now into Lycoming territory, Galante completed a pass to Thomas II for a 10 yard gain. On the ensuing play, Galante found Thomas II once more, this time for a 25-yard touchdown pass. Maciejewski cut into the Warriors lead, 42-21. The Warriors got the ball back in their possession but could not score as the clock ran out, and the Warriors held on for the win.
