MADISON, N.J. (October 22, 2019) – Senior
Nathalia Padron of the FDU volleyball team notched a career-high 26 kills as the Devils downed Delaware Valley University 25-21, 20-25, 25-17, 26-24 Tuesday evening.
FDU moves to 8-13, 1-5 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom as Delaware Valley drops to 6-16, 0-6 in the conference.
The Devils fell behind early as the Aggies notched six straight points to build a 7-4 lead. After the Devils regained the edge, consecutive kills from the visitors pulled the frame level at 15. The see-saw set continued, with the Devils stringing together seven of the final eight markers to take a 1-0 lead. During the run, junior
Jessica Garreffa recorded two kills with freshman
Sophia Miskulin notching a solo block.
The Aggies controlled the second set, grabbing 12 of the first 17 markers. The Devils got as close as two thanks to an ace from Garreffa, but Delaware Valley the frame with three straight tallies. FDU used five consecutive points to go in front 8-3 in the third stanza, with the run capped off with an unforced error. With
Kacie Ros serving, the Devils reeled off five straight points, including three kills from Padron. Delaware Valley pulled to within six, but junior
Rebecca Morse ended the third period with a service ace.
Padron registered a kill in the fourth frame to extend the FDU advantage to 8-4, but the Aggies were able to take the lead back. An 8-2 rally pushed the score to 19-17, forcing FDU into taking a timeout. The timeout paid off, as the Devils pulled level at 21, 22, 23, and 24 before a Padron kill brought up match point. Padron capped off her senior night in style, pinning down a Ros set to clinch the match.
