Women's Soccer Topped by DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (October 19, 2019) - The FDU women's soccer team was bested by DeSales on Saturday afternoon by a score of 5-3.

The Devils go to 10-5-1 overall, and 0-4 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom, as the Bulldogs improve to 12-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference. 

The Bulldogs scored in the 12th and 14th minute, to take the early 2-0 lead. In the 23rd minute, FDU recorded their first shot attempt of the game, as junior Madeline Finnegan fired away an attempt. In the 24th minute, junior goalie Ashley Paulino denied the Bulldogs attempt to tack on to their lead. In the 31st minute, it was Paulino again, as the junior stopped the Bulldogs from scoring. With the final horn of the half sounding, the Bulldogs took their lead into the halftime break.

The Devils executed on their first shot attempt of the game. In the 58th minute, junior Stephanie Corea fired off a pass to senior Erika Pita, who scored the goal. A few minutes later, DeSales would score once more, to extend their lead to 3-1. The Devils would not back down, as in the 68th minute, Pita took the ball through the Bulldogs defensive unit for the score. 

Down 3-2, the Devils did not waste much time to tie the game up. In the 70th minute, junior Tatiana Nieto connected on her attempt, to tie the game at 3-3. The tie was short-lived, as the Bulldogs quickly took the lead back, 4-3. In the 73rd minute, junior Nathalia Gallo recorded a shot-on-goal attempt, as her shot attempt was saved by the Bulldogs goalie. The bulldogs would later add to their lead, as they took the eventual final score, of 5-3. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Pita notched two goals, for her second multi-goal game of the season.
  • Corea recorded her first assist in her FDU career.
  • Nieto's goal is her eighth of the season.
  • Junior Ashley Paulino made four saves.

UP NEXT
The Devils return to the pitch on Wednesday, as they host MAC Freedom foe Delaware Valley at 7 p.m. in the Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
