READING, Pa. (October 19, 2019) – The FDU volleyball team fell to Albright College 25-17, 23-25, 25-16, 25-22 Saturday afternoon.
With the setback, FDU falls to 7-13 as Albright moves to 8-9.
The Devils fell behind 7-2 in the opening frame, as the hosts reeled off seven consecutive markers. A kill from senior
Nathalia Padron pulled the Devils level at 10; however seven of the next 10 markers favored the hosts. FDU closed to within a pair at 19-17 after a service error, but the Lions closed out set one with the final six points.
A ball-handling error extended the FDU lead to 7-3 in the second period before a 9-0 spurt by the Lions swung momentum in the hosts' favor with a 15-11 edge. After the lead swelled to six, Padron stepped up to the service line and delivered seven straight tallies. During the run, the senior notched back-to-back aces. Junior
Jessica Garreffa slammed down a kill to push the set to 24-21, but the Lions battled back to stave off two set points. Padron set the frame away as she notched a kill to even things at one all.
Trailing by four in the third set, rookie
Sophia Miskulin brought the Devils to a tie score with four straight points, capped off with a solo block from junior
Liz Moise. The Lions claimed the third set as they recorded seven of the final nine points to take a 2-1 advantage.
The Devils raced out to a 10-4 lead in the final frame, with Moise notching a solo block and an attack error finishing off the rally. After the Lions tied things at 11, FDU produced five of the next seven markers, forcing Albright into a timeout. The Devils the lead disappear thanks to 6-1 spurt, and Albright was able to finish off the match with a double-block.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Padron, Garreffa, and sophomore Kacie Ros each produced double-doubles. Padron had 16 kills and 23 digs, Garreffa totaled 14 kills and 13 digs, and Ros had 22 digs with 34 assists.
- Garreffa, Padron, and junior Rebecca Morse each had a team-high two aces.
- Moise had three solo blocks.
