Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Tripped Up by Misericordia 1-0

MADISON, N.J. (October 12, 2019) - The FDU Florham women's soccer team fell to Misericordia University in conference action on Saturday afternoon, by a score of 1-0. 

The Devils go to 10-3-1 overall, and 0-2 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play. The Cougars improve to 5-4-2 and 1-1 in MAC Freedom games. 

Devils freshman goalkeeper Brianna Branagan was stellar early on. Branagan totaled back-to-back saves in the fourth and fifth minute when she denied the Cougar's attempts to score. In the 11th minute, Branagan recorded yet another save off of the Cougars shot. 

In the 17th minute, junior Erica Martins' shot attempt just missed the mark, as it hit the crossbar. In the 19th minute, the Cougars broke past the Devils' defensive unit for the shot attempt, but Branagan once again rejected the attempt, for the save. 

 In the 30th and 31st minute, senior Erika Pita fired away shot attempts that the Cougars goalie was able to corral in. In the 36th minute, Misericordia got on the board as they slotted home a loose ball in the box. Going into the second half, Misericordia led the Devils, 1-0.

In the second half, the Devils' defensive contingent was superb from start to finish. Branagan led the charge, as she garnered saves in the 54th and 55th minute. In the 82nd minute, junior Amanda Croce just missed on a shot attempt. In the 85th minute, freshman Jenna Conanan broke past the Cougars defense for the shot attempt that the Cougars goalie saved. With time ticking away, Misericordia held on for the win.

  • In her first collegiate start, Branagan recorded six saves.
  • The Devils held the advantage in corner kicks, 7-5.

UP NEXT
The Devils resume play on Tuesday when they travel to Stevens, to take on the Ducks in MAC-Freedom action. The game will kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
