Women's Soccer Battles Kean to Scoreless Draw

UNION, N.J. (September 5, 2018) - The FDU-Florham women's soccer team battled Kean University to a 0-0 draw Wednesday evening.

The Devils sit at 2-0-1 while Kean is 1-1-1.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Paulino and Kean's Mary Bystrycki were the heroes in tonights game, with each playing 110 minutes without surrendering a goal.

FDU was the better team in the opening 45 minutes, getting eight shots and two corner kicks. Junior Nicolette Roberts had a big chance in the 24th minute, but Bystrycki made the stop. Paulino was tested in the 40th minute, making a save on Madison Krisanda.

The Cougars seemed to turn in on the in second half, outshooting the Devils 8-6. Paulino was tested early, making a save off a corner kick just 2:16 into the stanza. FDU had its turn off a corner in the 70th minute, as a shot by junior Lindsey Scarmozzino whistled wide.

Paulino came up big late in the half, stopping Clare Lewis off a corner with 5:50 to go. Sophomore Amanda Croce had the final two shots of the frame for the Devils, but her final attempt with 42 ticks left was saved.

The Devils nearly found a winner 14 seconds into the extra session, but junior Erika Pita had a shot deflected by the Bystrycki. Paulino made one save in the period, stopping Deana Abdou with 48 seconds remaining. Both teams mustered just one shot in the second overtime, with the keepers each making a save.

Paulino made seven saves, just two off her career-best set against Misericordia last year. Scarmozzino led the team with six shots, as Pita and Croce combined for five.

FDU returns home for a showdown against in-state rival William Paterson Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
