MADISON, N.J. (September 8, 2018) - Sophomore
Amanda Croce notched a goal and an assist to lead the FDU-Florham women's soccer team past William Paterson 2-0 Saturday.
The Devils controlled the first half holding the Pioneers to one shot that came in the 12
th minute which was saved by sophomore goalkeeper
Ashley Paulino. The save led to a breakout for the Devils but sophomore
Erica Martins shot attempt was saved to keep the scored tied at zero. The next closest opportunity for FDU-Florham to break the tie came when junior
Nicolette Roberts launched a shot from 23 yards out that sailed over the net.
The scoreless tie was finally broken when sophomore
Amanda Croce found the top left corner for her second goal of the season in the 51
st minute. Sophomore
Tatiana Nieto tallied her team leading fourth assist of the season on the goal. The back line of sophomores
Miranda Rosa and
Madison Rosa along with juniors
Dari Lyons and
Nicolette Roberts continued to stifle the Pioneers throughout the second half, forcing key possessions changes.
In the 81
st minute Croce decided to share the wealth when she fed Finnegan with a beautiful volley for her first goal of the season. The Devils fired off three more shots that were all on target in the final nine minutes. FDU-Florham finished the afternoon with a 15-3 advantage on shots and a slim 3-2 lead in corners.
Paulino extended her shutout streak to 216:41, making two saves in the victory. Nieto led the way with four shots, as classmate
Nathalia Gallo registered three.
The Devils will travel to Hackettstown, New Jersey to face Centenary University Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 3 p. m.
