WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (September 29, 2018) - The FDU-Florham women's soccer team was tripped up by King's 1-0 in their Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom opener Saturday evening.
The Devils drop to 7-2-1, and 0-1-0 in the MAC Freedom, while King's improves to 4-4-0, 1-0-0 in the conference.
FDU nearly broke through in the third minute, but sophomore
Erica Martins had a header saved by Wilkes goalkeeper Tara Bender. 90 seconds later, it was King's who had an opportunity, but sophomore
Ashley Paulino made a save. Paulino made consecutive saves in the 22nd minute to keep the score deadlocked at zero.
King's didn't record another shot in the half after those two, but FDU had a gorgeous chance to take the lead in the 28th minute. Sophomore
Tatiana Nieto fired a shot that ricocheted off the post, and had another attempt sail wide in the 32nd minute.
FDU held the 8-3 halftime edge in shots, while both sides were even with three corner kicks.

Lindsey Scarmozzino along with Nieto had shots that were saved by Bender, once again prolonging the scoreless deadlock. Late in the second half, sophomore
Amanda Croce tallied two shots that were snared by Bender, two of her nine stops on the night.
With just 3:21 left, Emily Harrington of the Monarchs broke the scoreless game with goal, jamming in a loose ball. FDU was unable to get off any shots after the goal, and fell 1-0.
Paulino made four saves, while Nieto and Martins combined for 11 shots.
FDU returns to action on Monday, taking on Lehman at 5 p.m.
