Harris Sets Career Kills Record as Volleyball Wins Two

WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 29, 2018) - Senior Lauren Harris of the FDU-Florham volleyball set the career record for kills as the Devils notched wins over Lycoming and Olivet Saturday.

Harris needed 17 kills entering the second match of the day, and recorded 22. Her new record of 1,356 is five more than the previous record holder Meghan Redd had. The Devils are now 7-15 on the season after winning three of four in the nation's capital.

FDU-FLORHAM 3, LYCOMING 1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-13, 25-18)
The Devils used an 8-1 spurt to pull in front 14-7 during set one. Lycoming closed to within four points multiple times, but consecutive unforced errors stretched the lead to 23-17. The Warriors notched the next three points to force FDU into a timeout, but sophomore Rebecca Morse fired up an ace to give FDU the 1-0 lead.

FDU constructed an 11-7 lead, with senior Marissa Lehnert and junior Nathalia Padron converting back-to-back kills. The Warriors battled back to take a 21-18 lead, but FDU came back and a kill from senior Katie Quinlan leveled the frame at 21. Lycoming would take four of the next six points to even the match at one.

An 8-1 rally by the Devils in set three gave them a lead they would not surrender. Lyco climbed to within five points, but Padron notched a kill and Harris served an ace to extend the FDU lead to 10 at 19-9. The Warriors would get no closer, and an unforced serving error handed the win to FDU.

A Lycoming kill closed the deficit to 11-9 in the fourth and final set, but Lehnert pounded a kill that set up a set-swinging 7-0 run. Harris served six straight points, as the Warriors committed four attack errors during the run to help out the Devils. After Lycoming got as close as five, a serving error brought up match point. Fittingly, it was the senior
Harris who toed the service, and served up her second ace of the match, this time closing the door on the Warriors.
Harris led the way with 17 kills and 12 digs, while Morse had a pair of aces and 20 digs. Quinlan notched three blocks, as the Devils team combined for 10 blocks assists during the four sets.

FDU-FLORHAM 3, OLIVET 2 (23-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-12)
Harris led the way with 22 kills and 24 digs, as Quinlan slammed home 16 kills to go along with a season-high nine digs. Morse tallied 22 digs, as sophomore Liz Moise recorded four block assists.

In the opening set, neither side led by more than three points the entire frame. The Devils knotted things at 19, but six of the final nine points went in favor of Olivet. FDU found themselves in a 12-4 hole in set two but an unforced error tied things at 15. The set was tied at 18, 21 and 22 before Olivet scored the final three points to take a 2-0 lead.

The Devils fell behind by six at 19-13 midway through the third set, but freshman Kacie Ros served up seven straight points to give FDU a brief lead. With the score tied at 21, Moise kickstarted a 4-0 set-ending run with a kill, and then ended the set with a kill off an overpass.

With a little bit of momentum, the Devils grabbed a 15-11 lead in the fourth frame. Despite Olivet tying the set at 22, FDU responded with three of the last four points, punctuated with a Nathalia Padron kill. Neither side led by more than a point for a majority of the final set, but the Devils tallied three straight points to bring up match point. After Olivet forced a side-out, Quinlan ended the match with a kill off a Ros set.

FDU returns home on Tuesday, hosting DeSales in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom action beginning at 7 p.m.
