NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (September 16, 2018) - Playing their second game in 24 hours, the FDU-Florham women's soccer team notched a 1-0 double overtime win over SUNY-New Paltz Sunday afternoon.
The Devils moved to 6-0-1 while New Paltz fell to 1-6-0.
FDU notched the first two shots of the game, as sophomore
Amanda Croce and junior Lindsay Scarmozzino had shots in the sixth minute stopped by Megan Tornatore. The guests continued to put the pressure on the Hawks, with sophomore
Nathalia Gallo rocketing a shot off the crossbar in the 33rd minute. Eight minutes later, Croce had back-to-back opportunities but couldn't convert as the second shot hit the iron as well.
The Devils held a 9-2 edge in shots during the opening half and also led 3-1 in corners. The Hawks really didn't put too much offense together to open the second, but the Devils nearly converted off a corner kick in the 69th minute. Gallo inserted the ball to Croce who's shot was snared by Tornatore. Neither side could find a goal, and after 90 minutes headed into overtime.
The Hawks had the lone attempt of the first extra session, but a shot with nine seconds left went wide. The Devils began the second OT with a corner kick, but a header by sophomore
Erica Martins went wide right. 48 seconds later, Martins executed a perfect cross to Croce, who notched her fifth goal of the season, sending the Devils home with a victory.
Croce had a season-high seven shots while Gallo and Scarmozzino combined for seven. Sophomore goalkeeper
Ashley Paulino made three saves in the victory.
FDU faces a tough-test Wednesday, when they travel to take on nationally-ranked The College of New Jersey at 7:30 p.m.
