MADISON, N.J. (September 15, 2018) - The FDU women's soccer team picked up a 2-0 win over Marywood University Saturday afternoon.
By moving to 5-0-1, the Devils are off to the best start in school-history. The Pacers fell to 0-5 with the setback.
Goals from sophmores
Amanda Croce and
Erica Martins charged the Devils offense to their fifth win of the season, as sophomore
Ashley Paulino continued to be dominant in net for the Devils and finished with three saves.
In the ninth minute, Croce received a pass from 40 yards out from junior
Dari Lyons, and found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season. The Devils defense was shut down in the first half only allowing one shot which was blocked, holding a 7-1 shot advantage going into the half.
The Devils offense continued to attack in the second half. Their first opportunity to score came in the 48
th minute when junior
Lindsey Scarmozzino's shot rang off the crossbar. Moments later in the 52
nd minute, Martins collected the throw in from sophomore
Tatiana Nieto and beat the goalkeeper nearside for her second goal of the season. The assist was -Nieto's team-leading sixth of the season.
FDU-Florham finished with a 20-4 advantage in shots and a 4-1 advantage with corners. Martins led the Devils with five shots, with sophomore
Madeline Finnegan and freshman
Sydney Weber each taking three.
The Devils will travel to New Paltz, New York to face SUNY New Paltz Sunday, September 16 at 3 p.m.
