JERSEY CITY, N.J. (August 31, 2018) - The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham women's soccer team netted five second half goals to secure the 7-0 victory over NJCU in their season opener Friday night.
Junior
Erika Pita had a hat trick in her first career game for the Devils, while
Ashley Paulino kept a clean sheet in goal stopping three shots.
FDU-Florham scored the first goal of the night in the 12th minute when sophomore
Nathalia Gallo gathered the rebound and found the top left corner to give the Devils the lead. In the 44th minute Pita netted her first goal of the night to double the Devils lead heading into half.
FDU-Florham finished the first half outshooting NJCU 14-2, while also holding a 5-0 edge in corners.
Pita converted on a pass from
Nicolette Roberts in the 64th minute to push the lead to three to open second half. Eight minutes later the Devils saw two more shots find the back of the net just a mere thirty seconds apart when sophomore
Tatiana Nieto and Pita completed her hat trick.
Five minutes later,
Kate MacMillan joined the scoring party when she converted on a feed from Nieto. Senior
Carly Bresney closed out the scoring with a shot from long range that pinged off the crossbar in the 80th minute.
FDU held a 22-5 edge in shots during the game, led by seven from Pita.
The Devils will have their home opener next against Ramapo College on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 2 p. m.
