MADISON, N.J. (April 7, 2018) - The FDU baseball team fell 8-3 against Delaware Valley in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom action Saturday.
FDU falls to 6-12 on the year, while Delaware Valley improves to 6-8.
The Aggies capitalized on FDU errors all afternoon, taking advantage of back-to-back miscues in the first to grab a 1-0 lead. After a adding a run on a wild pitch in the third, the guests exploded for four tallies in the fourth and two more in the sixth.
The Devils answered with a pair in the bottom of the sixth. Senior
Reynaldo Diaz was hit by a pitch and
Christopher Franco walked to lead off the frame. After a fly-out, senior
Joseph Bonaccorso reached on a fielder's choice to score Diaz. Classmate
David Wilbur singled home Bonaccorso, cutting the deficit to six.
FDU loaded the bases in the seventh, as junior
Ian Havran led off with a bunt single while
Nate Peacock also singled. After a Diaz walk, Franco reached on a fielder's choice to plate Havran. The Devils were unable to get any closer, failing to score in the final two frames.
Brad Norris was the hard-luck losing pitcher, giving up just one earned run in six innings. Freshman
Rob McGuinness and junior
Joseph DeFeo combined for three shutout innings, allowing just three baserunners. Havran had three hits in the leadoff spot in the setback.
The two sides will meet in a doubleheader in Doylestown, Pa. tomorrow beginning at 12 p.m. Both games will be seven inning affairs.
