Baseball Snaps Losing Streak with Triumph Over Centenary

FLEMINGTON, N.J. (April 4, 2018) - Senior Reynaldo Diaz hit a ravishing 4-for-6 with two home runs as the FDU baseball team topped Centenary 15-4 Wednesday.

The victory ended the Devils five game losing skid, with the team improving to 6-11 on the season. Centenary dropped to 6-8.

The Devils wasted no time scoring, notching two runs in their first at bat. After junior Ian Havran singled to lead off the game, Diaz homered two batters later putting the Devils up 2-0. FDU doubled the lead in the third, with Diaz reaching on a run-scoring fielder's choice and a ribbie single from senior Christopher Franco.

The Cyclones cut the lead in half in the third, putting up two runs on two hits. The hosts evened the game in the fourth courtesy of a two-run double.

FDU grabbed the lead for good in the fifth. After sophomore AJ Yurista and Diaz singled to lead off the inning, Franco belted a double to center scoring both. With two outs, senior David Wilbur drove in Franco with a single to right.

Diaz cracked his second dinger of the day with one out in the eighth, giving the Devils an 8-4 lead. The team exploded for seven runs in the ninth with Yurista clearing the bases with an RBI double. Wilbur and sophomore Michael Tufano closed the inning out with consecutive fielder's choice outs.

The senior Diaz finished a double shy of the cycle, going 4-for-6 with five RBI and five runs scored. Every starter had at least one hit, while Franco had three hits and three RBI's. The team swiped five bags, led by two from Havran.

FDU resumes conference play with a home game against Delaware Valley Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
