EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. (April 28, 2018) - The FDU women's tennis team had its seven match winning streak snapped with a 9-0 setback against Wilkes Saturday.
FDU suffered its first Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom setback of the year, and are 5-1 in conference. Overall, the Devils are now 11-4.
Junior
Allyson Wolf and senior
Amelia Vetto were bumped off 8-3 in No. 2 doubles action, while the duo of freshman
Kira Bradley and senior
Serina Grande also fell 8-3. At No. 1 doubles, freshman
Nicole DelRosso teamed with sophomore
Christine Kenny, but fell 8-1.
Bradley put up a tough battle at No. 4 singles, falling in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Freshman
Brooke Dorsey also fought tough at No. 6 singles, eventually falling 6-2, 6-2.
The match of the afternoon was a highly spirited match at No. 1 singles between Jordan Vasarkovy and DelRosso. Vasarkovy took the first frame 6-2 but DelRosso came back for a 7-6 win in the second. In the third and deciding stanza, DelRosso was unable to complete the comeback, falling 10-6.
FDU will host the MAC Freedom Semifinal Round, with Devils taking on No. 3 seeded DeSales Tuesday afternoon. The match, which will begin at 3:30 p.m, will be held at the Drew University Tennis Courts.
