MADISON, N.J. (April 23, 2018) - The FDU baseball team fell to DeSales 11-1 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom action Monday.
The Devils drop to 9-23 overall and 3-15 in the MAC Freedom.
Sophomore
Anthony Cuomo struck out the side in the second inning, but entered into trouble in the third inning. The Bulldogs sent 15 men to the plate, scoring 11 runs on seven hits. The Devils didn't help their cause, committing four errors during the frame. Cuomo and classmate
Steven Riley were only charged with five earned runs, none of which were charged to Riley.
FDU put runners on base in each of the first three innings, but were unable to capitalize. The Devils loaded bases in the fourth, as seniors
Jack Paladino and
Garrett Ruoff walked while classmate
Joseph Bonaccorso singled through the left side with one out. The DeSales pitcher bore down, getting the next two hitters to strike out.
Riley threw well, retiring the final two hitters he faced in the sixth inning via strikeout. Junior
Joseph DeFeo relieved him in the seventh, and after a leadoff got the next two hitters out. DeFeo was the beneficiary of a swift 5-4-3 twin-killing to end the frame.
The Devils got on the board in the seventh, as sophomore
Michael Tufano reached on a fielder's choice. After a walk to freshman
Joe Moskowitz, senior
Reynaldo Diaz hit a ground-rule double to left, scoring Tufano. DeFeo struck out the side in the eighth after a leadoff single, while junior
Kevin Brown fanned two in his one inning of work.
Moskowitz and Bonaccorso paced the Devils with two hits each, while Riley, DeFeo and Brown combined for nine strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings of relief.
