MADISON, N.J. (April 22, 2018) - The FDU baseball team pounded out 15 hits in the first game of a split with Eastern Sunday afternoon.
The Devils won the first game 14-7 before falling 6-5 in the nightcap. FDU dropped to 9-22 with the split, while Eastern is now 13-19.
GAME 1: FDU-Florham 14, Eastern 7
The Eagles grabbed an early 1-0 lead, tallying an unearned run in the first inning. The guests doubled their lead in the top of the third, as Kyle Daddario drove in a run with a single to left field.
FDU, who were set down in order in the first two frames, sent 10 men to the plate in the third. Senior

Matt Nodoro dropped down a perfect bunt sacrifice bunt and reached on a fielder's choice as the catcher had no play.

Ian Havran drove in a run with a sac fly and senior
Garrett Ruoff had the big hit, a two-run double to left center which scored both runners. Two batters later, senior
Christopher Franco doubled to left center scoring Ruoff, while freshman
AJ Yurista knocked in Franco with a single to right center, capping off a five-run inning.
The Devils added to their lead in the fourth, tallying a pair of runs. After Moskowitz led off with double, Nodoro dropped a single to center allowing Moskowitz to score. Two batters later, Ruoff singled through the box to plate Nodoro.
Freshman Joseph Kasnter worked a perfect fifth inning, and the Devils once again batted around in the fifth. Yurista lofted a fly ball to right that was dropped, getting to second on a two-base error. A walk and a Bonaccorso single loaded the bags, while Nodoro walked to drive in another run.
Havran singled to left to score Bonaccorso, while senior
Christopher Franco blooped a single into left-center, scoring two runners without a throw. The Eagles tallied a run in the sixth on a balk, but Bonaccorso and
Reynaldo Diaz hooked up for an inning ending 4-3 double play to retire the side.
Senior
Brendan McGregor collected his first collegiate hit, a single that hugged the right field line. After an error, Moskowitz singled into center to plate McGregor. The Eagles attempted a rally in the seventh, scoring three unearned runs in the seventh. A fielder's choice to third base ended the comeback hopes and gave FDU the win.
All seven Eagles runs were unearned, as freshman
Joseph Kastner improved to 2-0 on the year. Kastner worked five frames, striking out two. Moskowitz had a career-day, going 4-for-4 with two RBI's and two runs scored. Ruoff and Franco each had three ribbies, while Nodoro and Bonaccorso touched home three times.
GAME 2: Eastern 6, FDU-Florham 5
After a scoreless first inning, Eastern scored notched a pair of unearned runs in the visitors half of the second. The Devils knotted game at two during their turn in the second. Yurista was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Senior
Jack Paladino doubled down the line in left, and Yurista hustled to score all the way from first. After loading the bases, Havran lofted another run-scoring fly-out to tie things up.
The Eagles closed out their scoring with four tallies in the third. The big hit came with bags full, as Freddy Yahn doubled to right center allowing all three men to score. Freshman
Jonathan Weitzman settled down, holding Eastern scoreless the next two innings.
FDU dug into the lead in the fifth. After the first two hitters struck out, Yurista started a rally with a double and moving to third on a wild pitch. Paladino dropped a single into left field to score one before Bonaccorso reached on an error, putting runners on second and third. Freshman
Nate Peacock laced a single into centerfield, allowing both guys to score easily.
That would be as close as the Devils would get, as Eastern reliever Matt Bunjo retired all seven hitters he faced.
Paladino was the lone Devil with multiple hits, while he and Peacock each drive in a pair.
FDU is back in action tomorrow, hosting DeSales in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom action. First pitch in scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
