Kathleen Petrucelli and
Caitlyn Damon combined for 11 goals to lead the FDU women's lacrosse team to an 18-7 win over DeSales Wednesday.
FDU moved to 10-4 overall while remaining unbeaten in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom at 4-0. DeSales drops to 4-8, and 1-3 in the conference.
Graduate student
Noelle Shirey scored on the first shot of the afternoon, netting a free position tally just 34 seconds in. Petrucelli doubled the lead, but DeSales cut the lead back in half 21 seconds later.
Senior
Samantha Holleritter restored the two goal lead, converting a pass from freshman
Olivia Chaoush with 24:33 left in the half. The Bulldogs knotted the score at three, scoring a pair of goals 42 seconds apart.
Shirey ignited a seven goal spurt for the Devils, which saw her, Petrucelli and Damon all net multiple goals during the rally. Damon tallied the final two, scoring 56 seconds apart. DeSales stopped the run with 3:47 remaining in the stanza, but Shirey added her fourth of the day with 52 ticks left in the half.
Chaoush and Petrucelli opened the second half scoring, but the Bulldogs did not back down and cut the deficit to eight with 20:39 left. That would be as close as they would get, as the Devils closed game off with four of the final five markers, as Petrucelli punctuated her career day with the final goal.
Petrucelli scored a career-best six goals while adding two assists as Damon also matched a career-high with five goals.
Noelle Shirey added four caused turnovers and two draw controls in addition to five goals. Juniors
Megan Nemeth and
Erin Gill combined to make five saves.
FDU remains on the road Friday night, heading to Delaware Valley for a 6 p.m. contest.
