Women's Lacrosse Falls Against Kean

UNION, N.J. (March 28, 2018) - The FDU women's lacrosse team was tripped up by in-state rival Kean University 11-6 Wednesday afternoon.

The Devils are now 3-3 with the setback, while Kean stays undefeated at 8-0.

Junior Caitlyn Damon opened the scoring 3:08 in the game, as the Devils used a Cougar turnover to start the march up field. After senior Samantha Holleritter scooped up a ground ball, Damon did the rest to break the scoreless tie. After the hosts tied the game, the Devils had three consecutive chances to break the draw, but the Cougar goalie denied the threat.

Graduate student Noelle Shirey broke the deadlock with 20:10 left in the half, but the lead was short-lived. Kean leveled the game 40 seconds later and grabbed their first lead of the afternoon on a free-position shot with just over 15 minutes remaining.

Damon notched the next two goals a mere 32 seconds apart, and the Devils went into the halftime break with a 4-3 lead. The Devils held a slim 17-14 edge in shots during the first period, while each side went 11-of-13 on clearing attempts.

Junior Kathleen Petrucelli gave the Devils a two-goal lead early in the second half, but that would be all the scoring for FDU. The Cougars would tally the final eight goals of the contest including two in a span of 20 seconds midway through the half. FDU was held to just seven second half shots, while Kean won 9-of-10 draws in the second stanza.

Damon notched three goals for her her fourth three-goal game of the season, while Petrucelli rifled six shots. Junior Megan Nemeth made 20 saves, which tied the school record, while also picking up 12 ground balls. Defensively, junior Jessica Haddad had two ground balls and a caused turnover.

It's a quick turnaround for FDU, as the Devils will host Vassar College at Robert T. Shields tomorrow. The game, which is a makeup game from earlier this season, will begin at 6:30 p.m.
