Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Alvernia, 15-2

READING, Pa. (March 24, 2018) – The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham women's lacrosse team tallied seven goals in the first 12 minutes en route to a 15-2 victory over Alvernia University Saturday afternoon.

The Devils snapped their two game losing skid, improving to 3-2 on the season. Alvernia dropped to 0-6 with the setback.

FDU got the scoring started, as junior Jessica Haddad forced a turnover on the defensive end and led to a Devils clear. Senior Cassidy Vastano found junior Caitlyn Damon, who scored just 2:52 into the game. Damon notched another tally which kick started a three-goal in 90-second spree by the Devils. Senior Samantha Holleritter and junior Kathleen Petrucelli also netted goals during the run.

The Devils controlled the entire first half, blanking the Golden Wolves over the first 30 minutes. With just over 10 minutes remaining in the first period, the Devils extended the lead to double-digits, as sophomore Aliyha Elk converted a free-position attempt. Freshman Mia Michaelides capped off first half scoring with 1:20 remaining, as the Devils cruised into halftime with an 11-0 edge.

The Golden Wolves held FDU off the scoreboard for first 10 minutes of the second stanza, before Damon tallied yet another goal, this time off a pass from classmate Caroline Pape. Alvernia notched a pair of goals midway through the second half to get on the board, but two more markers from Damon and an Emily Koepfler tally closed out scoring for the Devils.

Damon potted a career-high five goals on six shots, while Holleritter, Petrucelli and graduate student Noelle Shirey each tallied a pair. Petrucelli added three assists and four ground balls, while Pape corralled five draw controls.

Defensively, juniors Megan Nemeth and Erin Gill each made a pair of saves as Shirey and junior Leah Eble forced three turnovers each. FDU held the edge in shots (27-9), ground balls (21-8), and draw controls (11-9) while also going 15-of-16 on clear attempts.

The Devils are back in action tomorrow, taking on Ramapo at 1 p.m. in Mahwah, N.J.
