Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Tripped Up by Stevens, 11-6

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 12, 2018) - Graduate student Noelle Shirey scored her 100th career goal, but the FDU women's lacrosse team fell to Stevens 11-6 Monday.

The Devils are now 2-1, while Stevens moved to 3-1 on the season after the result.

Stevens opened the scoring with the first three tallies midway through the opening half, but junior Kathleen Petrucelli ended the run with a goal with 12:31 left. Petrucelli converted a pass from senior Cassidy Vastano to put the Devils on the board. Shirey inched closer to the mark, taking a pass from Caitlyn Damon and scoring.

The Ducks took advantage of an FDU miscue and scored just 1:48 after the Shirey tally. Stevens scored the next three goals, ending the half with a 6-2 lead. Petrucelli once again ended the run, but Stevens scored three time in a four minute span extending the lead to six.

FDU answered quickly, as junior Caroline Pape corralled a draw control and found Shirey. Shirey streaked towards the goal and rifled a shot that eluded the goalie, hitting the century mark in career goals. With 12:59 left in the game, sophomore Madison Wood netted a free position goal, cutting the gap to four and forced the Ducks into a timeout.

After a Ducks goal, Shirey completed a hat-trick with a free-position tally with 6:20 left, but Stevens one additional goal to conclude the scoring.

Shirey led the way with seven shots, while Pape and classmate Leah Eble had three ground balls each. Junior Megan Nemeth made five saves in the setback.

FDU is back in action tomorrow afternoon, taking on Amherst at 1 p.m. at the Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla.
