Women's Basketball Uses Strong 1st Half in 56-49 win over Manhattanville

MADISON, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University Florham Campus women's basketball team clinched a semifinal home game when they defeated conference opponent Manhattanville University, 56-49, on Senior Night at Ferguson Recreation Center on Tuesday night.

The Devils extend their winning streak to six, going to 18-6 on the season and 11-2 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom.

FDU used a dominant first half to propel themselves over the Valiants, redeeming themselves from a tough loss earlier in the season.

Junior Bria Smith, who missed the last meeting, made her mark with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Sophomore Gabrielle Harris opened up the contest with a three-pointer, setting the tone that the Devils weren't going to accept another loss at the hands of Manhattanville.

A 9-0 run with five minutes remaining in the first quarter put the Devils up by seven as the hosts left half time up, 34-23.

Sophomore Kendrea Williams led the Devils with 14 points as classmate Taiah Thornton added 11 and added two assists and two steals.

Junior Raven Dowling had six assists and four steals as Harris picked up seven rebounds, including six on the defensive glass.

Up next, the Devils close out their regular season schedule against King's College (Pa.) on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. before they head into playoff contention.
