Women's Basketball Falters Against Misericordia

MADISON, N.J. (DECEMBER 8, 2018) - The FDU-Florham women's basketball team was defeated in a conference match-up by Misericordia University 65-48, Saturday afternoon.

Misericordia moves to 9-0 overall, and 2-0 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom, while FDU falls to 3-5, 0-2 in conference.

The Devils overcame to early 4-0 runs by Misericordia to outscore the Cougars 21-12 in the first quarter. The first Misericordia run started just under a minute into the game when their 4-0 run made the score 6-2, before three Devil free throws made it 6-5. Junior Jennah Roman hit two free throws and senior Raven Dowling added the third.

The Devils used a 16-2 run to close out the quarter, with the defense forcing Cougars into making eight turnovers while shooting only three shots. Senior Kayla Croswell led the Devils with six points during the run.

The Cougars started the second quarter on a 6-0 run, but the Devils offense responded with a 6-1 run of their own. However, with the score 27-19, the Cougars concluded the quarter on a 10-2 spurt to tie the game at 29. This run included a three at the buzzer to complete the Cougar comeback. Croswell led the Devils at the half with eight points while junior Cayla Staggers added seven points.

In the second half the Devils were outscored 36-19, which included a 13-0 run by the Cougars that lasted over seven minutes spanning the third and fourth quarters. Croswell responded to this run with two jumpers to cut the Cougar lead to 54-39. However, this was as close as the Devils will get as the Cougars closed out the game outscoring the Devils 11-9.

UP NEXT
The Devils will play in the St. Petersburg Classic in Florida on December 19 and 20 against Albright College and Wisconsin Lutheran College. The Devils will resume conference play on Wednesday January 9 at Eastern University.
