Kayla Croswell and
Raven Dowling, the FDU-Florham women's basketball team was edged by Stevens 66-60 on Tuesday evening.
The Devils drop to 3-2 on the season, while Stevens improves to 4-1.
Stevens scored seven of the first nine points, but a late quarter 8-2 run capped off with a Dowling triple gave FDU their first lead of the game at 15-12. The lead was short lived, with the Ducks leading 18-15 after a 6-0 spurt closed out the period.
Dowling opened the score in the second quarter with a strip and score layup, trimming the gap to a point. The Ducks had their largest lead of the opening half with a Jess Broad layup with 1:38 left that stretched the lead to 36-30. Croswell converted a pair from the charity stripe to send the team into the locker room trailing by just four points.
Midway through the third stanza, a 6-0 rally by the Devils brought lead down to one possession, with Croswell hitting a layup to cap off the run. The Connecticut native hit a layup, drew the foul and hit the free throw with 32 seconds left in the frame, bringing the Devils to within a pair. Stevens hit a trey with 10 seconds left however, making the score 50-45 hitting into the fourth.
FDU answered a Stevens jumper to open the fourth with four straight points, however the Ducks countered with five straight of their own. Broad and sophomore
Aleah Bass traded layups for four straight possessions, keeping the gap at four points, but Stevens scored five straight, including three from the free throw line to build a nine point lead. Dowling converted a triple with four seconds left, but the Devils were unable to climb back in.
