Field Hockey Looking for Second MAC Freedom Championship

MADISON, N.J. (November 2, 2018) - The FDU-Florham field hockey team is looking for its second Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Championship when they host DeSales Saturday.

GAME INFO
FDU and DeSales will square off at 1 p.m. at Robert T. Shields Field Saturday afternoon.

$2 - Students
Free - Under six years old
FDU Students/Faculty/Staff will be admitted free to the Field Hockey game with an FDU ID courtesy of the Campus Executives Office!

WHAT'S AT STAKE?
The winner will receive the MAC Freedom's berth to the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship which starts Wednesday.

HISTORY
The Devils are looking to make their fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament. They qualified in 1984, 1986, and 2014 previously. FDU last won the MAC Freedom in 2014.

LAST TIME OUT
FDU advanced to the championship game with a 4-0 triumph over Eastern in the semifinals Wednesday. Junior Jessica Pietracatella, seniors Makayla Pak and Cassidy Santorelli along with freshman Haleigh Flukey all recorded goals.

PREVIOUS MEETING
DeSales and FDU met back on September 21, with the Devils coming out on top. Senior Chrissy Penney knocked in a Jessica Pietracatella pass in the seventh minute to give FDU the 1-0 win.

BULLDOG REPORT
The Bulldogs enter the meeting with an 11-7 record, including a 6-1 mark within the MAC Freedom. Junior Christie Hansen was tabbed the MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Year, while Head Coach Lindsay Goeller was named the MAC Freedom Coach of the Year.

CLIMBING THE RANKS
Junior defender Marie Pietracatella has recorded six defensive saves this season, tying her for third place on the single-season list. She has nine in her career, which is tied for second all-time with Lauren Brannan.

#WINNING
The Devils tied the single season program record for wins when they knocked off Eastern, notching their 16th win of the year.

THRICE AS NICE
Senior Kelly O'Neill has netted a pair of hat tricks in conference play, while Penney notched one on Senior Night against Manhattanville. 

BALANCED ATTACK
Seven different Devils have scored a game-winning goal this season, led by four from Penney. Five Devils have tallied 10 or more points this season, as O'Neill is tops on the club with 29 points.
