NEWARK, N.J. (November 13, 2018) - The FDU-Florham women's basketball team was topped by Rutgers-Newark 60-47 Tuesday evening.
The game was the season-opener for the Scarlet Raiders, while FDU drops to 1-1.
Neither side was able to score over the first 2:05 before senior
Kayla Croswell opened with four consecutive points. After hitting a layup, Croswell drew the foul and hit the free throw, completing the three-point play. With the Devils leading 8-3, Rutgers-Newark closed the quarter out on a 17-6 spurt. Junior
Breion Knox knocked out a layup with 21 seconds to go, cutting the lead to six entering the second.

Cayla Staggers stripped a Scarlet Raider and went the rest of the way for a layup to trim the lead to four early in the second stanza, but Rutgers-Newark went on a 12-0 run to push the lead to double-digits. Sophomore

Imani Collins converted from the charity stripe, however RU-N closed the quarter out with five straight points.
FDU shot just 27.6% in the opening half, while Newark hit 44.8% of their attempts.
The Devils cut the lead to six with a 10-0 run of their own opening the third frame, with Croswell hitting a layup with 7:17 remaining. FDU's defense allowed just one made basket over the final 6:42 of the period, but were unable to get any closer than 14. Croswell brought the Devils down to within single digits midway through the fourth quarter, but the hosts tallied 10 of the final 15 points of the game to seal the win.
The senior Croswell poured in a career-high 20 points, while Collins pulled down 10 rebounds.
The Devils will host the inaugural FDU Tip-Off Classic this weekend, welcoming Purchase College, New Jersey City University and Rutgers-Newark to campus. FDU will face NJCU Saturday at 5 p.m. before taking on Rutgers-Newark at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
