Women's Soccer Draws with Eastern

MADISON, N.J. (October 6, 2018) - The FDU-Florham women's soccer team outshot Eastern University 37-9, but was unable to score and the teams tied 0-0 in the conference match-up Saturday afternoon at Robert T. Shields field.

FDU is now 8-3-2, and 0-1-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom, while Eastern is 1-0-1 in conference.

\The Devils were able to rifle off eight first half shots, but none found the back of the net. Their best opportunity to score came in the 22nd minute when sophomore Amanda Croce shot was deflected by a diving attempt by the Eagles goalkeeper. The Devils defense shut down the Eagles offensive attack in the first half, only allowing two shots, one on target and another wide left. Both teams were limited to one corner each in the first half.

FDU-Florham came out in the second half on the attack. Beginning in the 54th minute, the Devils were able to rattle off six shots in four minutes including three that were saved. Junior Erika Pita nearly scored on both of her shots during the shooting frenzy but sophomore Madeline Finnegan had the best chance to score with the goalie out of position, but an Eastern defender was able to block the shot attempt.

The Devils nearly ended the game in the 86th minute as Pita's shot from 16 yards out hit the crossbar and deflected straight down but was ultimately ruled not a goal so the game stayed tied for the remaining of regulation. FDU-Florham out-shot Eastern 28-4 in regulation.

The offensive attack continued to attack in overtime outshooting the Eagles 5-0 in the first overtime period, however none of the shots were able to find the back of the net, and the teams played a second overtime. The Devils best overtime chance came in the 108th minute when Pita's shot was able to get passed the keeper but sliced wide right. This was the last opportunity for the Devils to score.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Paulino recorded five saves in net, as Pita lead the Devils with a season high nine shot attempts.

FDU returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Delaware Valley for a 7 p.m. matchp.
