Women's Soccer Blanks DelVal for First MAC Freedom Win

DOYLESTOWN, Pa, (October 10, 2018) - Sophomore Tatiana Nieto scored the lone goal in the 21st minute to lead the FDU-Florham women's soccer team past Delaware Valley 1-0 Wednesday night.

The Devils move to 9-3-2 overall, 1-1-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom. The Aggies dropped to 4-8, 1-2-0 in conference play.

Sophomore Erica Martins had four chances early in the game to score, but was denied on two while the others didn't get on goal. In the 15th minute, sophomore Ashley Paulino made a save off of a corner kick try to preserve the scoreless game. The hosts were whistled for a foul in the 21st minute, and Nieto knocked in the ensuing free-kick to put the Devils up 1-0.

The Devils defense limited Delaware Valley to just two shots in the period while attempting 13 of their own. The two sides also each took one corner kick in the opening 45 minutes.

The Aggies took the first shot of the second half, which was saved by Paulino a mere 44 ticks into the stanza. The Devils ramped up pressure, taking all six corner kicks and attempting 13 shots in the second half. FDU nearly doubled the lead in the 78th minute, with sophomore Amanda Croce getting a touch off a Nieto corner. The ball was cleared off the end-line before crossing, keeping the score at 1-0. Croce had the final chance of the game, as a shot was saved with just 1:03 remaining.

Martins took a game-high eight shots, while Croce and Nieto combined for eight. Paulino made three saves in the shutout win.

FDU returns home Saturday, hosting DeSales at 2:30 p.m. at Robert T. Shields Field
