MADISON, N.J. (October 13, 2018) - The FDU-Florham women's soccer team lost a close game to DeSales University 1-0, Saturday afternoon.
The Devils fall to 9-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom meanwhile, DeSales improves to 5-6-2 overall and 2-2 in MAC Freedom.
The Devils outshot the Bulldogs 7-5 in the first half but neither team was able of scoring. Both keepers had three saves each in the first half. DeSales held a 2-0 corner advantage over FDU-Florham. Sophomore
Tatiana Nieto led the team with four first half shot attempts. Her free kick in the 44
th minute nearly snuck past the DeSales keeper.
Junior
Erika Pita nearly broke the scoreless tie in the 71
st minute when she beat her defender towards the middle of the field and rifled a shot that deflected off the crossbar. Two minutes later the Devils had another opportunity to score the game's first goal when a header attempt from sophomore
Madeline Finnegan was bobbled by the Bulldogs keeper. DeSales was able to head in a cross for a goalin the 75
th minute to pull ahead 1-0. The Devils best opportunity to tie the score in the 89
th minute when Nieto took a free kick from 20 yards-away but the shot sailed high.
Sophomore
Ashley Paulino had three saves in net for the devils while DeSales Haley Jacobs stopped five Devils shots. The Devils finished with a 12-7 shot advantage but the Bulldogs held a 4-2 advantage in corners.
The Devils will host Manhattanville College, Tuesday October 16 at 7 p. m.
