Women's Soccer Notches 2-1 Win Over CSI

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (October 3, 2018) - The FDU-Florham women's soccer team scored once in each half to best the College of Staten Island 2-1 Wednesday afternoon,.

The Devils improved to 8-3-1, while CSI fell to 6-5.

Sophomore Ashley Paulino was tested early, fending three shots in the 10:08 of the game. The Devils got on the board in the 16th minute, as sophomore Erica Martins took a shot that ricocheted off a Dolphins defender and into the right corner. Paulino protected the one goal lead with a stop in the 24th minute.

In the 40th minute, the Devils looked to double the lead but a shot from sophomore Amanda Croce pinged off of the crossbar. Just 52 seconds later, the Dolphins had a shot that also rang off of the crossbar. FDU held a 9-6 edge in shots during the first half, and took the lone corner kick.

The Devils first shot on target of the second stanza doubled the lead on the afternoon. Sophomore Madeline Finnegan played a perfect long ball for classmate Brianna Cucinelli, who scored into the left corner for her second tally of the season. The Dolphins trimmed the lead in half with 10:26 left, as Alexa Appel headed in a corner kick try. That would be the Dolphins final shot of the game, as the Devils attempted the final three shots of the contest.

Finnegan led the way with six shots, as Paulino made five saves in net.

FDU returns to action Saturday, hosting Eastern in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom action beginning at 3 p.m.
