Strong Second Half Sends Women's Soccer Past Drew

MADISON, N.J. (October 23, 2018) - The FDU-Florham women's soccer team rode a three goal second half to defeat Drew 3-0 in the Battle of Madison Ave. Tuesday.

The Devils moved to 11-5-2 while Drew falls to 6-8-3.

FDU controlled the first half, outshooting Drew 10-2 but were unable to find the back of the net. Nieto went for the goal with 10 seconds left, but her attempt was saved by the Drew keeper.

The Devils need just 4:09 to break through after halftime. Sophomore Amanda Croce came down the far flank and ripped a shot that beat the goalkeeper, giving FDU the 1-0 lead. Croce's tally was her eighth of the season. Drew nearly answered nine minutes later, but Sarah Burcaw's shot was stopped by a diving Ashley Paulino.

FDU doubled the lead in the 62nd minute. Sophomore Erica Martins crossed to classmate Madeline Finnegan, who found junior Erika Pita. Pita took her time and beat the keeper low for her team-leading 10th goal of the year. Just 3:23 later, the Devils got the final tally of the night off a set piece. Junior Lindsey Scarmozzino sent in a corner kick that found sophomore Madison Rosa. Rosa blasted a high shot past the leaping keeper for her first goal of the season.

The Rangers didn't go away quietly, as a shot by Alexis Castanheira hit the crossbar in the 67th minute. Paulino made three saves late to preserve the victory, including punch over the crossbar in the 81st minute.
