Women's Soccer Takes Down Wilkes 2-1 on Senior Night

MADISON, N.J. (October 26, 2018) - The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham soccer team defeated Wilkes University 2-1, on Friday night.

The Devils finish the regular season at 12-5-2 including 3-3-1 in MAC Freedom play while Wilkes falls to 8-6-2 overall, and 5-2 in MAC Freedom play.

Junior Nicolette Roberts netted her first collegiate goal and added an assist in the winning effort. Sophomore Tatiana Nieto added a goal of her own to give her the team lead with 23 points. Sophomore Ashley Paulino had seven saves in goal for the Devils en route to her 12th win of the season.

Roberts got the Devils offense start by netting her first career goal from 30 yards out in the 13th minute. The shot beat the Colonels' keeper high and the Devils took an early 1-0 lead. Six minutes later, Roberts lobbed a pass in front of the keeper which, Nieto headed the ball over and pass the keeper for her sixth goal of the year.

The Devils continued to apply pressure in the first half but were unable to add a third goal. At the half the Devils held a 7-4 shot advantage but Wilkes held a 2-1 corner advantage.

FDU-Florham nearly added an insurance goal early in the second half, but sophomore Erica Martins shot was stopped by the Wilkes' keeper. The Colonels nearly cut the Devils lead in half in the 65th minute when they had two shots nearly go in. The first shot by Wilkes bounced off the crossbar and directly to a Wilkes forward but her shot was stopped by a diving attempt by Paulino.

The Colonels scored in the 82nd minute to cut the Devils lead in half but, were unable to net the equalizer despite the aggressive offensive approach late in the game.

The Devils will await their postseason fate following the Eastern/Kings game tomorrow at 12.
