Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 12 Misericordia Tops Women's Soccer

DALLAS, Pa. (October 20, 2018) - The FDU-Florham women's soccer team was defeated by No. 12 Misericordia 4-1 Saturday evening.

The Devils fall to 10-5-2 overall, 2-3-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom. The Cougars improved to 12-2-1, 6-0-0 in the MAC Freedom.

The Cougars put the first shot on net, but the Devils answered back with one off a corner kick. An attempt by junior Lindsey Scarmozzino was blocked in front. Sophomore Ashley Paulino was important in net, making three saves midway through the frame. Her best was a diving attempt punching the ball away, denying the scoring the scoring opportunity.

Misericordia broke through with three goals over the final 16:42, taking a 3-0 lead into the halftime break. The Cougars held a 14-1 edge in shots, while also holding a slim 2-1 lead in corner kicks.

The Devils cut the deficit to two 13:53 into the second half. Off a scramble, sophomore Amanda Croce corralled a loose ball near the top of the box and ripped a shot inside the right post to put the Devils on the scoreboard. Paulino faced a shot from just inside the top of the box in the 65th minute but was able to make the save.

Paulino made another acrobatic save with just under 17 minutes remaining. After sending the ball out for a corner, the Cougars nearly added a fourth goal but the Devils defense cleared the ball out just before it crossed the line. Misericordia tacked on an insurance goal with 9:05 left in the second half.

Croce led the team with a pair of shots, with Paulino making 13 saves. The 13 stops were a career-high, four more than she made last year against the Cougars.

FDU will close out the regular season on Friday night, hosting Wilkes at 7 p.m. The Devils will honor seniors Kate MacMillan, Danielle Matos and Carly Bresney in a pregame ceremony.
