MADISON, N.J. (January 27, 2018) - The FDU men's basketball was edged by Misericordia 66-62 Saturday afternoon.
Freshman
Ahmad St. Fleur hit an early layup to give FDU the brief 6-5 edge, but the visitors would tally seven of the next nine to open a six point edge. Junior
Darren Davy canned a three to cap a 16-9 spurt which the Devils pulled back in front by a point.
The Cougars ended the frame on a 9-2 run, heading into the break with a 32-26 lead. Davy and St. Fleur combined for 15 points in the opening 20 minutes. Once again, the Devils had good ball control, turning the ball over just four times in the first half.
The Devils began the second half with a 12-2 run, capped off with back-to-back treys from freshman
Shawn Smith and Davy. After the Cougars scored six straight, the hosts went on a 17-8 rally, spanning 8:16. The club shot 50% from the field during the run, committing zero turnovers.
FDU surrendered 18 of the next 24 points, as Misericordia erased a three-point deficit and turned it into a six point lead. A layup by freshman
Jimmy Olaniyi with two seconds cut the gap to four, but FDU was unable to get any closer.
The game featured four ties and 18 different lead changes. Davy finished with 18 points, including 2-for-2 from the beyond the arc and classmate
Derek Leohner added six tallies. St. Fleur tallied 15 and four rebounds, while senior
Veon Lassiter notched six points and six rebounds off the bench.
FDU hits the road on Wednesday, taking on Wilkes at 8 p.m.
