DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The FDU-Florham men's basketball team dropped a 74-62 decision to Delaware Valley University in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom matchup Saturday afternoon.
The Devils fall to 0-17 on the season and 0-6 in conference as the Aggies improve to 3-14 overall and 1-5 in the MAC Freedom.
Delaware Valley managed to grab a 17-point lead over FDU with about seven minutes remaining in the first half.
Still, the Devils were able to get within seven before the end of the half after freshman
Shawn Smith scored six straight points to close the gap.
FDU went on a 9-0 run to end the first half as freshman
Jimmy Olaniyi sunk a three-pointer off a feed from
Oliver Ortman.
The comeback wasn't meant to, however, and the Aggies found momentum with a pair of treys and an 8-0 to put the Devils in a 21-point hole with 10 minutes remaining in the contest.
The Devils worked to claw their way back into the game with a layup from freshman
Ahmad St. Fleur and two
Darren Davy baskets from the charity stripe, but Delaware Valley kept answering right back.
Davy led the Devils with 22 points and seven rebounds, including three on the offensive glass. Smith was a difference-maker and notched a career-high 19 points to pair with five assists.
Olaniyi made the most of his time on the court, consistently hustling to grab seven rebounds while contributing nine points in the game.
Up next, the Devils will look to grab a conference win over Manhattanville College on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. in Purchase, N.Y.
