Field Hockey Earns Third Straight Victory

MADISON, N.J. (September 7, 2017) - Junior Brooke Sherwin scored twice to lead the field hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Moravian Thursday night.

The Devils, who held a commanding 44-3 edge in shots, moved to 3-0 on the season. Moravian dropped to 0-2.

FDU peppered the Greyhounds early and often, firing 11 shots in the opening 8:20 while also registering six penalty corners. The Devils broke through at the 10:08 mark, as Sherwin tipped in a crossing pass from senior Marissa Kowalskie for her third marker of the season.

4:01 later, junior Makayla Pak rifled a shot from just inside the circle which was saved by Greyhound goalie Ashley Kunsman. Sherwin was there for to put the rebound home for her team-leading fourth goal of the season. In the 24th minute, it was Pak who dribbled through the defense and slotted the ball into the lower corner for her second goal in as many games.

With just over two minutes left in the first half, Moravian got a goal back as Haley Wrazien converted a penalty stroke to cut the gap to 3-1. The Devils defense clamped down in the second half, giving up no shots over the final 35 minutes. After making 11 saves in the first half, Kunsman made 10 more stops in the second to keep the game at 3-1.

Sherwin and Kowalskie combined for 21 shots, while junior Samantha Rubin made one save in 55:03. Freshman Megan March played the final 14:57 in her first career appearance, facing no shots.

FDU will hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Gwynedd Mercy Saturday for a 3 p.m.tilt.
