READING, Pa. (September 26, 2017) - Freshman
Erica Martins scored her team-best fifth goal, but the FDU women's soccer team fell to Albright 2-1 Tuesday.
FDU moved to 6-3 on the season, while Albright is now 5-4 with the victory.
The Lions tested freshman goalkeeper
Ashley Paulino early, forcing the rookie to make saves in the 3rd and 5th minute. After surrendering three corner kicks, the Devils finally had an attempt, but a shot by freshman
Tatiana Nieto went high.
After coming on in the 22nd minute, Martins made her presence known five minutes later, as she pinged in a cross from senior
Kristina Ragolia into an open net for her fifth tally of the year. Paulino kept the Devils in the game, making three key saves in the opening half.
The game started to get tense in the second half, as five yellow cards were whistled in the first 18 minutes of the period. After a foul in the box on FDU, Emily Saxon stepped up and converted the penalty kick to even the score. With just under 13 minutes left, Kennedy Lutz headed in a free kick to give Albright the 2-1 lead. Nieto had two attempts to score, but was unable to find the equalizer.
Freshman
Nathalia Gallo had four shots, while Paulino made four saves in her return from injury.
