MADISON, N.J. (September 20, 2017) - Seniors
Paige Zawislak and
Marissa Kowalskie along with junior
Chrissy Penney scored to lead the FDU field hockey team to a 3-0 win over Drew Wednesday.
The Devils are now 6-2 on the season while Drew falls to 0-6.
FDU held a 19-0 edge in shots during the first 35 minutes, but the Devils were stymied for the first 22 minutes. Junior
Brooke Sherwin and sophomore
Ariana Wexler were active, firing multiple attempts toward the cage. At the 22:09 mark junior
Stephanie Noll crossed a ball across the line where Zawislak was to deflect the pass into the net for her first tally of the season.
The Devils continued to push, as a shot by junior
Kelly O'Neill went wide with just over 1:30 left. FDU drew 10 penalty corners in the opening half in addition to the 19 shots. Just 1:39 into the second stanza, O'Neill found Penney at the far post, and the junior redirected the shot for her third marker of the season.
Five minutes later, junior
Makayla Pak made a perfect through pass, finding Kowalskie who moved in all alone on the keeper. The senior rifled a shot past the diving goalie for her third goal of the season. Drew threatened in the 55th minute, recording back-to-back penalty corners. Junior
Samantha Rubin made one save to end the threat.
Sherwin had seven shots, including three on goal, while Wexler and Kowalskie each had four.
FDU is back in action on Saturday, opening conference play with a 5 p.m. game against Misericordia.
