MADISON, N.J. (May 6, 2017) - The FDU women's lacrosse team won its third straight Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Championship with a 14-3 win over Misericordia on Saturday.
Senior
Brienna Reasoner was named the MAC Freedom Tournament Most Outstanding Player after totaling 11 goals and an assist to go along with 14 ground balls, eight caused turnovers and seven draw controls over the two Tournament games.
Senior
Noelle Shirey kicked things off 4:20 in the game, while Reasoner and junior
Cassidy Vastano tallied goals 18 seconds apart. After the Cougars got a goal back with 22:26 left in the first, FDU closed out the frame with six straight goals. The senior trio of
Brittni Calleo, Reasoner and
Joelle Manganella netted the first three, before sophomore
Kathleen Petrucelli and senior
Frances Maggio scored within 27 seconds of one another.
Misericordia opened the second stanza with a tally from Lexee Willey, but Manganella and Reasoner each scored twice to push the score to 13-2 FDU. Shirey capped off the the Devils scoring with 5:20 remaining. Misericordia would score a final goal with 1:01 left to establish the 14-3 margin.
Sophomore
Megan Nemeth made six saves in net, while Reasoner finished with five goals, six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Junior
Samantha Holleritter picked up five ground balls and five draw controls, as Calleo also forced three turnovers.
